7 Life Lessons I've Learnt As A Content Creator

As Salam Aleykum Everyone!

Hope you are all gearing up for the weekend.

To finish the week strong, I thought we could dive a little deeper into the life of a content creator. Being in this industry for so long, I’ve come to realize, it has taught me some important life lessons.

So this edition is not just for the content creators, but for everyone who is looking for a weekly dose of motivation 💪

🏃‍♂️ Just Get Started
If there is something you really want to do, don't dwell on having the right moment, or the right equipment. The best thing you can do with anything you want to achieve or change in life is by simply getting started, then learning and improving along the way. So, work with what you have. James Clear, author of Atomic Habits talks about starting small when you want to build good habits. If you want to get in shape, do some push ups and go for a run, if you want to learn how to cook, start with the simplest dish you know, if you want to make videos start with your phone camera, then focus on improving, just take that first step.

🤓 Be A Problem Solver
This one time, I was getting ready for a shoot only to find out that the camera I had was not working. Instead of letting that stop my plans for the day, I just used my phone and shot the entire video instead. There’s always something that can go wrong, so instead of letting this stop you in your tracks, thinking on your feet becomes your superpower. When a problem comes your way don’t complain, or think to yourself why is this happening to me, go straight into problem solving mode, think how can I make the most out of this situation, and more often than not you will realize that there is always a solution to any problem that comes your way.

🥳 Don't Forget To Celebrate
In the world of creating content there seems to be this constant thought of what's next. The minute you finish a video and publish you are already thinking about what video to create next. So my advice is to stop for a second and if you have a reason to celebrate, celebrate like crazy. It is only by celebrating the good times that make getting through the hard times a little easier.

Celebrating my incredibly talented team that worked two weeks non stop to launch our Sri Lanka documentary!

🎯Enjoy the process as much as the results
If a video goes viral; you get a rush of energy, a video performs poorly and you are so difficult on yourself. Regardless of how it performs, if you don’t enjoy the process of making something, no matter what that is, it’s a recipe for burnout. The great thing about being a creator is you always have another chance at success. So instead of dwelling on the fact that it didn’t go well, the key is to take the lessons from the experience and keep pushing forward.

💪Your Mind and Body Is Your First Success
A healthy body can lead to a healthy mind, and a healthy body and a healthy mind can lead you to achieving great things in your life. Prioritize taking care of your health and wellbeing, without it you have nothing. Even if you do “have it all”, it will be a fraction of what you can achieve with a good night's sleep, exercise, eating well, and connecting with those you love. Even the world’s biggest creator Mr. Beast has started realizing the importance of being healthy, here is an article on his journey. Although this may take up time from creating and working in the short term, the benefits of taking care of your health will be felt well beyond your career.

 🙅‍♂️Perfection is a myth
There’s always room for improvement when it comes to anything we create and if we only look to attain perfection and nothing less, we might get stuck. I was reading this book titled How To Be An Imperfectionist, the author really drove this point home:

“Care less about results. Care more about putting in the work. Care less about problems. Care more about making progress despite them. Or if you must fix something, focus on the solution. “

Stephen Guise

I feel like I cut myself and others more slack when I stopped seeking perfection. I would rather do something at 99% than get held back looking for that 1%. That being said, I don’t mean you should not care at all, it means that focus is more on the bigger picture than a single brush stroke.

🙋‍♂️Don’t be afraid to ask for help
As content creators, we often wear many hats, filming, editing, writing, getting brand deals, the list can go on and on, and this can get isolating but that doesn't mean we have to do it all alone. Reaching out for help is often overlooked by so many of us. Whether it’s seeking feedback, getting technical support, or even having someone teach you something. Collaboration and connection are extremely important in all aspects of life. It's like having a personal compass for improvement, guiding you to be the best version of yourself in all that you do.

In Other News 📰

Most of this week has been dedicated to script writing and preparing for some upcoming travel videos we have in the works! All very exciting, the team and I are putting a lot of emphasis on planning, so that when we film and travel it can be a lot more enjoyable and allow for more creative freedom.

I am also following my own lessons that I have learned through being a content creator and taking a week off to spend some quality time with the kids before they go back to school. Why do I feel that their summer holidays pass by so fast, I remember when I was in high school I think we had like three months or something, now it’s like a month and a half 😂

See you next Friday!
Much love & God Bless ❤️✌️,
Khalid
